THE WEATHERALLS SCHOOL

NEWSLETTER - FRIDAY 30TH MARCH 2007

WORLD BOOK DAY

Once again the children and staff at The Weatheralls enjoyed World Book Day on 1st March. During the day everyone was involved in a range of activities related to Peter Pan, including wearing some wonderfully imaginative costumes. The fancy dress competition winners were Dominic B (Foundation Stage), Elizabeth N (Key Stage 1) and Jade-Lee (Key Stage 2). The treasure maps which were hidden in library books were discovered by Mia P, Archie P and Kieran M who followed the clues to lead to their treasure!

Special thanks go to Mrs Dean from Soham Books who gave children the opportunity to spend their £1 voucher during the day and after school.

OPEN EVENING

Thank you to all the parents and friends who attended our Open Evening on 6th March. parents reported that they found the event both informative and enjoyable.

SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS

This half term the school council considered the following issues:

  • Safety on the KS2 climbing frame
  • Consultation with the local authority on extended schools
  • Increasing the activities of the House System

A year-group rota has been drawn up for use of the climbing frame, a local authority representative took the views of the school council on activities before and after school and children are being consulted in class council meetings on future House System activities.

SLEEPING BEAUTY

This year's school production of Sleeping Beauty was a resounding success! Many thanks and congratulations to the children, staff and helpers who worked so hard and also thank you to the many parents and friends for their kind comments. Well done everyone!

A PLEA FROM THE CROSSING PATROL

Would parents please ensure that their children remain with them as they approach the crossing. Thank you.

LATE ARRIVALS - a repeat request

Punctuality is an important life skill. Late arrivals often miss a vital lesson introduction by the teacher and disrupt the education of the other children. The amount of late arrivals remains a concern and we ask parents to make very effort to ensure the children arrive at school between 8.40 and 8.50 a.m. If your child is unavoidably delayed the supervising adult is required to present the child at the main office and sign them in. Thank you for your co-operation.

MRS TURNBULL

Mrs Turnbull is leaving in July after 7 years of service to The Weatheralls School. She will continue to do supply work in a range of schools so we will undoubtedly continue to benefit from her skills. I'm sure many parents would like to join with me in thanking Mrs Turnbull for her hard work and commitment to the children of The Weatheralls and wish her all the best for the future.

USED POSTAGE STAMPS

We collect used postage stamps in school for the Guide Dogs for the blind! So far we have collected 12kg, but we need lots more for our target. We will keep you posted on the worthwhile cause!

USED INKJET CARTRIDGES

We are able to recycle inkjet cartridges with a company who pay for cartridges returned. If you have any at home, please send them in, however we are unable to take refillable of compatible cartridges. So far this year we have raised £45, which paid for the tape players for the children in Foundation.

A big thank you to all who have already sent in any of the above.
