THE WEATHERALLS SCHOOL

NEWSLETTER - FRIDAY 19TH JANUARY, 2007

The Weatheralls wishes everyone a happy and prosperous New Year. The children have settled quickly into the school routines again after the Christmas break. We are all looking forward to a successful 2007.

ACTIVE MARK

We are delighted to announce that The Weatheralls has been awarded the Active Mark 2006 for 'exceptional delivery of the 'National School Sport Strategy'. Over the last two years Mrs Baker has led our development in Physical Education through the National Strategy to the point where we have met all the criteria for the Active MArk. These include increased time spent teaching sport and PE and providing a wide range of high quality activities both within and outside the school day. The award is presented by the departments for education and skills and for culture, media and sport. Congratulations to all the children and staff.

YOUR VIEWS

Please look out for a short parent's questionnaire soon to be sent home with your child. Your views are very important to us and we would like to know your opinions on a number of initiatives designed to promote partnerships between parents and school. So please fill in the anonymous questionnaire and post it in the boxes in classrooms or the school reception area. Thank you.

KEEPING UP WITH THE CHILDREN

A number of parents attended the recent taster session on Literacy and have signed up for the 6 session course on Thursday afternoons. There are still places available and a free creche is provided. An experienced tutor will lead sessions designed to model how literacy is taught in school using materials appropriate for the group. The sessions are interesting, fun and relaxed so why not pop into the school and express an interest.

PARENT TEACHER CONSULTATIONS

These will take place in the evenings of the 5th and 6th February - please make every effort to attend these important meetings. Details to follow.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS

The photographer will be in school on Friday 9th February. Details to follow.
