THE WEATHERALLS SCHOOL NEWSLETTER - FRIDAY 9TH FEBRUARY, 2007 YEAR 2 RESIDENTIAL TRIP TO BURWELL HOUSE Year 2 pupils had a wonderful time at Burwell House Residential Centre from 15th to 16th January. Classes 5 and 6 took part in a range of activities based around the traditional hindu story of Rama and the Demon King. The children enjoyed making moving puppets, sculpting clay diva lamps and playing team-building games both inside and around the beautiful grounds. For many children this was their first, very enjoyable night away from home. HEALTHY SCHOOLS LAUNCH EVENING It was our great pleasure to welcome a packed hall of parents and children for the launch of our Health Promoting Schools initiative on the evening of 24th January. Everyone took part in a wide range of activities that regularly take place in school to promote a healthy lifestyle. We would like especially to thank those parents who volunteered to be part of our working party to help guide our future work in this important area. CAPTAIN CARROT'S HEALTHY EATING SHOW On Thursday 1st February we enjoyed a visit from Captain Carrot's show. This funny and exciting play used puppets, songs and tricks to teach the healthy eating message. Some of the children participated in the performance and everyone learnt about which foods were good for the body. Thank you for your voluntary contributions to help this performance to take place. A STORYTELLER VISITS YEAR 6 On Tuesday 30th January, Year 6 had the opportunity to spend the day listening to and working with John harris, the only full-time professional storyteller to work exclusively with children and young adults. The experience was very valuable to all the children as they realised the importance of expression and dramatic effects when storytelling, as well as further enhancing their understanding of the key elements that make an effective story. Following this visit Year 6 took their learning further by continuing a story John Harris began and they will shortly be emailing him finished versions to find out his verdict. PARENT CONSULTATIONS We would again like to thank parents for the high turnout at this week's parent consultation evenings. These meetings are very valuable to your child's learning and wellbeing at school. If you have been unable to make an appointment please contact the class teacher. PARENT PARTNERSHIP QUESTIONNAIRE Thank you to all the parents who took the time to complete the recent parent questionnaire. Your views are very important and we shall be analysing the responses shortly. LIBRARY BOOKS Please remind you children to bring their library books back to school each week on the correct day (see your teacher if you are not sure which day is your library day). If books are not returned, please be aware that you will be invoiced for the cost of a replacement. OPEN EVENING On Tuesday 6th March from 6.00pm to 8.00pm our school will be open to parents and children to visit all classrooms. You will be able to see many aspects of the curriculum and what may be provided for, and expected of, the children as they progress through the school. Details to follow. LATE ARRIVALS Punctuality is an important life skill. Late arrivals often miss a vital lesson introduction by the teacher and disrupt the education of the other children. The amount of late arrivals remains a concern and we ask parents to make every effort to ensure the children arrive at school between 8.40am and 8.50 am. If your child is unavoidably delayed the supervising adult is required to present the child at the main office and sign them in. Thank you for your co-operation. Trevor Parsons
